Un peu d'histoire

La France et l’Allemagne ont signé un accord de coopération pour produire en commun un avion d’entraînement à la fin des années 60.
Le TA501, issu des travaux du consortium Breguet-Dornier a été choisi de préférence à l’Eurotrainer E650 (Aerospatiale/MBB) et au T291 de VFW/Fokker en 1970.
L’Allemagne, qui préférait poursuivre l’entraînement de ses pilotes aux Etats-Unis, décida alors d’abandonner la version école pour se doter d’un avion dérivé pour l’attaque au sol et l’appui tactique.
Entre temps, le TA501 avait prit le nom d’Alpha Jet.
Les premiers Alphajet E (Ecole) français entrèrent en service en 1978, remplaçant les T-33 de Tours ; quant à la Luftwaffe, elle reçut son premier Alpha Jet A (Attack) l’année suivante.
La plupart des clients export ont commandé une version plus ou moins semblable à l’avion français.
La version allemande diffère de la version française par un système d’arme complètement revisité disposant de deux centrales inertielles et d’un radar Doppler, de deux points d’emports supplémentaires et d’un train d’atterrissage renforcé.
Ces modifications se traduisent sur le plan esthétique par une pointe avant très fine sur l’avion allemand et arrondie sur la version française.
La Luftwaffe a pris livraison de 175 Alpha jet A, ces avions remplaçant les vénérables FIAT G91R dans le rôle d’attaque au sol.
L’arrivée massive d’hélicoptères de combat dans les unités russes inquiéta l’Allemagne qui modifia quelques uns de ses Alpha Jet pour pouvoir les contrer le cas échéant.
Ils reçurent des réacteurs Larzac plus puissants, alors que le siège arrière disparaissait pour gagner quelques kilos.
La menace venant de l’Est étant écartée, la Luftwaffe s’est séparé de ses Alpha Jet au cours des années 1990.

L’avion présenté volait au sein de la 49ème escadre de bombardement (JaBo 49) de Fürstenfeldbruck.
Remarquez que l’Armée de l’air française est la seule à voler sur Alphajet en un seul mot !

Few words of history.

By the end of the 60', France and Germany signed a cooperation agreement to produce together a training aircraft.

In 1970, the TA501 from the Breguet-Dornier consortium was chosen in preference to the l'Eurotrainer E650 (Aerospatiale/MBB) and to the T291 (VFW/Fokker)

The Germany who prefered to train his pilots in USA decided to give up the training version and to be equipped with a ground attack and tactical support aircraft derived from the latter. By the way, the TA501 was named d'Alpha Jet.

In 1978, the first french Alphajet E (E for Ecole = School) came into service. They were replacing the T-33 from the Tours air base. Next year, the Luftwaffe was delivered with his first Alpha Jet A (Attack).

Most of the export customers have ordered a version equivalent to the french version of the aircraft
The german version differs from the french version with a completely different weaponery system ( two inertial systems - Doppler radar, two more loading points and a reinforced landing gear). These changes are shown by changing the esthetical aspect of the aircraft : a sharp fore tip instead of a round one.

The Luftwaffe was delivered with 175 Alpha jet A, these aircrafts were replacing the « venerable » FIAT G91R. The equipment of the Russian forces with a large number of fighting helicopters worried Germany who modified some of his Alphajet A to counter this threat when necessary. The Alphajet A were equipped with a more powerful Larzac engine and the rear seat was removed to decrease the weight of the plane. In 1990, when the East threat disappeared, the Luftwaffe left the Alpha jet A.

The aircraft displayed in our Museum flew with the 49th bombing wing (JaBo 49) located at Fürstenfeldbruck air base.
Fancy remark: The French Air Force flies Alphajet ( a single word) the other air forces on the Alpha Jet (two words) !
